The Cadillac Celestiq EV will be assembled by hand at GM’s Global Technology Center after an investment of $ 81 million.
The all-electric Cadillac Celestiq is manufactured at GM’s global technical center in Warren, Michigan.
This facility has been the center of GM’s engineering and design work since May 1956, and Celestiq will be the first industrial vehicle assembled here. This will be achieved through an investment of $ 81 million on the site, which will be used to purchase and install the equipment needed to make the EV manually.
“As the future flagship sedan of Cadillac, CELESTIQ represents a new, revitalizing era for the brand,” said GM President Mark Ross. “Each is handcrafted by an amazing team of artisans on our historic Technical Center campus, and today’s investment announcement highlights our commitment to delivering a world-class Cadillac that has nothing to do with craftsmanship, design, engineering and technology.”

Celestiq will also benefit from the GM Additional Industrialization Center, located on the campus of the Global Technical Center for 3D Printing Parts. It will have more 3D-printed parts than any other GM vehicle produced today, including structural and cosmetic parts made of polymer and metal. Celestiq will be based on GM’s Ultium platform.
The two main features of the new Cadillac will be the use of a smart glass ceiling, consisting of four quadrant, suspended parts, which will allow each occupant to set their own level of transparency of the roof. The driver and front passenger can “enjoy a free-form display with active privacy to the support column to help reduce driver anxiety.”

Cadillac will be previewing Celestiq in a show car release in late July.
