The Indian Army is bidding for Maruti Cypsy and the upcoming 5-door Mahindra Narrow Special Vehicles for replacement, which may fully meet the requirements. Mahindra Tar can meet the requirements of the army

- The car must be turbocharged and the steering must be strengthened
- Carry 7 people with the driver and their equipment and weapons
- Only hard surface
- Can work well above 5000 m above sea level
- Only 5 door configurations (4 side and 1 rear door)
- Couplings must be on all 4 sides for aerial landing
- MT / AT selectable 4 × 4
- Mandatory on both axes “Inter-wheel differential locking device”.
- Suitable for Class 5 bridges in general dimensions

The general requirement of the Indian Army is 1,500 vehicles for both the Indian Air Force and the Indian Navy. These vehicles must be able to operate in snowy mountains, plains and deserts.
