Punjab Workshop Creates Its Own Mahindra Thar Roxx

Aftermarket car shops have reached impressive levels of customization. They are capable of transforming any vehicle into just about any other car.

This latest version of the Mahindra Thar Roxx has been designed at a local Punjab workshop. Now Thar Roxx is all the rage in the Indian automobile market at the moment. We are about to witness it in the flesh on August 15. I have been reporting about the test mule being vigorously abused across various terrains in the country. That is done to ensure that the Thar Roxx carries forward the DNA of the most successful off-roading moniker in India. Apart from that, the main aim is to expand its practicality and comfort so that even large families can go out together in the Thar Roxx. Let us take a look at the details here.

Punjab Workshop Creates Mahindra Thar Roxx

We have stitched together these video clips from the baaz_wheels_official handle on Instagram. These showcase a framework of the Mahindra Thar Roxx. However, the SUV currently only has the basic silhouette. Also, it is hard to figure out the donor model for this unique creation. It could be the old Bolero or Marshal or some other old jeep. In any case, the current model looks strikingly similar to the original Thar Roxx. Sure, we have not seen the new Thar Roxx in real life yet, but the resemblance with the leaked images online is quite uncanny.

The tail section contains LED taillamps and a black top with a sturdy bumper and space to mount the spare wheel. On the sides, we see the colossal wheel arches and two doors. I find the relatively tiny wheels quite hilarious, although I believe these will be swapped for much bigger units as the SUV materializes. At the front, we see the broad grille with round headlamps, reminiscent of the regular Thar. It even gets prominent fenders and a clamshell bonnet. Also, the front bumper is rugged and sporty. All in all, the workshop mechanics have done a commendable job of coming up with such an impressive avatar of the Thar.

Our View

The trend of aftermarket car modification houses creating entire vehicles from scratch using older models is on the rise. In fact, I have seen people converting mass-market cars like the Honda Civic into supercars like the Lamborghini Huracan. In SUV parlance, this conversion of an old vehicle into the latest Mahindra Thar Roxx is also a prime example of that. There is still a lot of work needed to make it usable. As I was scrolling through the Instagram handle of this workshop, I came across a comment from the workshop owners mentioning that they can convert the old Bolero into the new Thar for Rs 6 lakh. Hence, you can get an idea of the kind of expenses you will need to bear should you decide to take this route.
