It seems like dealerships are having to resort to extreme measures to get rid of the existing inventory.

The Toyota Hilux is being offered at mouth-watering discounts in a bid to clear stock. In all honesty, I have been reporting about the offers on the pickup truck for a long time now. Many dealers across the country are looking for ways to sell their inventory. Hilux is a capable off-roading pickup based on the iconic Fortuner. The Japanese carmaker had huge expectations from the Hilux when it was launched in India back in 2022. The aim was to leverage the insane popularity of the Toyota Fortuner. However, things have not gone as per the plan.

Toyota Hilux with Massive Discounts

There have been many official and unofficial reports of Toyota dealers offering immense benefits to get rid of the inventory of the Hilux. One of our sources mentions that at present, a Toyota dealership has Rs 12.5 lakh worth of discounts on the Hilux. This includes insurance accessories and other benefits. This, essentially, brings the cost down to just Rs 28.85 lakh prior to road tax. Note that the actual prices range from Rs 30.40 lakh to Rs 37.90 lakh, ex-showroom, taking the on-road prices to well over Rs 44 lakh in some cities. To have it around Rs 30 lakh is almost unbelievable.

Toyota Hilux draws power from a 2.8-litre diesel engine which generates a decent 201 hp and 420 Nm (500 Nm with automatic transmission) of peak power and torque. One can choose between either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox. Being a hardcore off-roading truck, all variants come with a dedicated 4×4 configuration. This ensures that the pickup truck is able to take any terrain in its stride. Unlike the Fortuner, the Hilux doesn’t come in a petrol version.

Our View

Carmakers often offer attractive discounts on their products to boost sales and spur demand. It is true that more often than not, these discounts are on those cars which are struggling on the sales charts. We know that India is a price-conscious market. When people see enticing benefits and offers, they often push themselves to buy the car they always wanted. In fact, many people keep waiting for discounts to acquire a new car. Therefore, if you had the Toyota Hilux on the list of cars to purchase, this might be a great time.
