Tata Motors launched the electric version of the Curvv, while the ICE variants will arrive on September 2.
At the launch event of the Tata Curvv were on display as many as three show cars with faulty lighting setups. While two of these had a malfunctioning DRL each, another vehicle had the fog lamp acting up. This is surely something I’ve seen for the first time in many years of reporting about automobiles. The companies want to put their best foot forward while displaying their latest offerings at such launch events. However, things didn’t quite go according to the plan this time. Unfortunately, when this happens at the most crucial point like the launch ceremony, the image of the vehicle can potentially be affected. Let us take a look at the details of this case.
Tata Curvv with Faulty DRLs and Fog Lamp
We were able to spot the problems with the display cars during the launch event. One of the demo cars, the Curvv.ev was seen missing the right DRL. It was the same case with a Curvv ICE in red colour. Another Curvv, which the entire team of top Tata employees was posing with at the end of the presentation, had a malfunctioning left fog lamp. I feel this is quite shocking. The top executives happily posed with the coupe SUV with faulty lights and were even photographed by the media. Needless to say, various news publications noticed this along with the viewers and those watching online.
Tata Curvv was launched in the electric avatar at a starting price of Rs 17.49 lakh, ex-showroom. This is an attractive introductory price considering the shape, features, safety and powertrain on offer. It uses the Acti.ev platform which also underpins the Punch EV. There are two battery pack options – 45 kWh and 55 kWh. These offer ARAI-rated range of 502 km and 585 km, respectively. The ICE versions will be launched on September 2. They will be based on the new ATLAS (Adaptive Tech Forward Lifestyle Architecture) platform. All future ICE cars from Tata Motors (measuring between 3.9 m to 4.6 m) will use this architecture.
Our View
Now Tata Motors is among the biggest carmakers in the country. Its monthly sales are next only to Maruti Suzuki and Hyundai. The best part about Tata’s portfolio is that almost every product contributes in a healthy number to these sales. Until now, it didn’t have a hardcore Hyundai Creta-rivalling SUV in the lineup. After the arrival of the Curvv, things will change. It will be positioned above the Nexon and below the Harrier. Available in electric, petrol and diesel variants, it aims to cater to a wide range of potential buyers. Let us see how well the customers embrace it. As for the cars with faulty lights, we hope the display units were pre-production models that might have developed this little snag at the last moment. Meanwhile, the first batch of vehicles has reached showrooms and we hope none of the customers suffer from such niggles.
