Skoda Kylaq (Tata Nexon-rival) will launch in 2025. It will be a sub-4-metre compact SUV that will rival the giants of this segment and cost less than Kushaq
Skoda Kylaq (Tata Nexon rival) has been officially announced for 2025. It will be a compact SUV which will rival the giants of this segment including the likes of the Tata Nexon, Maruti Brezza, Kia Sonet, Hyundai Venue and Mahindra XUV3XO. This is a brutally competitive space with products from just about every major carmaker. Still, the Czech auto giant wants to expand its footprint in the Indian auto market. Hence, it wants to launch its most affordable SUV in the country next year. Let us delve into the specifics of the SUV.
Skoda Kylaq to Launch in 2025
Interestingly, the name Kylaq has been selected from over 200,000 entries under the ‘Name You Skoda’ campaign. We know that Skoda names its SUVs with ‘K’ as the starting letter and ‘Q’ as the last letter. To make things exciting, it took suggestions from Indians to name the compact SUV. The top 10 finalists won an exclusive trip to Prague, Czech Republic while one lucky winner will get the first compact SUV right off the production line. The name Kylaq comes from the Sanskrit language which means ‘crystal’. Skoda believes in naming the car in such a manner that it resonates with the local population.
In terms of specifications, the Skoda Kylaq will be underpinned by the heavily localized MQB A0 IN platform which also supports the Kushaq. Not only that, it will borrow the powertrain from the Kushaq as well. Hence, we will get the 1.0-litre turbo petrol mill with the option of choosing between manual and automatic transmissions. Even the aesthetic elements will bear some resemblance with the Kushaq. In comparison, the Tata Nexon comes with a 1.2-litre turbo petrol and a 1.5-litre turbo diesel with manual and automatic gearboxes. The Skoda Kylaq could be priced between 8 lakh and Rs 14 lakh, ex-showroom. Therefore, the rivalry will be exciting.

Our View
Skoda is well on its way to expand its market share in India. Its MQB A0 IN products – Kushaq and Slavia, have breathed a new lease of life into its business in India. The Czech carmaker wants to leverage the platform to spawn more products to cater to an even wider range of customers. As a result, the Kylaq will challenge the aforementioned rivals in this class. While it might be extremely challenging for the carmakers, the buyers will get incredible options to choose from. They will definitely find something that would perfectly suit their needs.
