Some stats put things into perspective just how different the situation in two neighbouring countries can be.

It is fascinating to break down the numbers pertaining to the cars sold in Pakistan and Delhi. We know that India is the third-largest automobile market on the planet. It is expanding exponentially as the standards of living of people rise. Automobiles, among other things, are one way of demonstrating social status in India. Hence, people often stretch their budgets and go out of their way to own a car. That has made us a prominent market in today’s world. On the contrary, automobiles are still not sold on such a massive scale in Pakistan. That is what makes these stats so astonishing.

Cars Sold in Pakistan and Delhi Compared

This report comes from ABP News TV on Instagram. As per the information in the post, 30,662 cars were sold in Pakistan in the entire last year. In comparison, over 6.5 lakh cars were sold in Delhi alone in this same time period. This averages out to be around 1,800 sales per day. Hence, just in a matter of 15-20 days, the sales figure of Pakistan’s yearly cars is surpassed. In total, India sold a whopping 41 lakh (4.1 million) cars in 2023. In fact, this was the first time in history that the yearly milestone of 40 lakh (4 million) sales was breached.

This makes India one of the world’s biggest automobile markets. The demand for vehicles after the pandemic has been strong. That has translated into healthy sales as evident from the stats. As is a tradition each year, the festive season of 2023 was the best month for sales in India with over 3,91,000 cars sold. Thankfully, the industry has recovered decently from the aftermath of the pandemic, semiconductor and supply chain issues. It will be interesting to see how strong the sales become as the festive season of 2024 approaches.

Our View

In all fairness, there is simply no comparison between the sales of cars in India and Pakistan. Still, it is crucial to quantify things to know the exact situation. What we should rather be focusing on are the players which are ahead of us in this race, i.e., China and the USA. These two are the largest car markets on the planet and we still have a long way to go before we can reach anywhere close to these. That should serve as a constant reminder for us to keep us motivated to grow.
