Ola Roadster Pro vs Ola S1 Pro Comparison

RC Verma

Ola is the largest two-wheeler EV startup in India and has just launched its first electric motorcycle.

The Ola Roadster Pro has finally been launched in India as I compare it with the Ola S1 Pro. This is a comparison between the flagship electric motorcycle and the flagship electric scooter from the two-wheeler startup. Ola has gained immense prominence in our market in the last few years. It has emerged as the major two-wheeler EV startup and has been able to resist the competition from the legacy two-wheeler manufacturers. In all honesty, the signs for the brand look positive for times to come. For now, let us stick to this competition between the electric scooter and electric bike.

Ola Roadster Pro vs Ola S1 Pro – Specs Comparison

Let us start with the newest launch from Ola in India, the Roadster. It comes in three variants – Roadster, Roadster X and Roadster Pro. For this post, we are comparing the top trim to experience the best that Ola has to offer. It is available in two battery packs – 8 kWh and 16 kWh. The electric motor produces a ginormous 52 kW (70.7 PS) and 105 Nm of peak power and torque. With the largest battery pack, the electric motorcycle is able to accelerate from 0 to 60 km/h in just 1.9 seconds. What I find even more impressive is the fact that it is able to clock a top speed of a jaw-dropping 194 km/h. Not just that, the larger battery trim boasts a range of an impressive 579 km on a single charge. Hence, users will have some peace of mind knowing that the intervals between charging sessions will be long.

The futuristic-looking electric motorcycle bears a rather interesting demeanour. The large bulge you see in the body where the traditional bikes have the engine, is actually where the battery is positioned. Furthermore, it has a steel frame which is suspended via a USD fork at the front and a monoshock absorber at the rear. The Ola Roadster Pro gets disc brakes at the front and rear and the ABS as standard. For enhanced safety, the bike uses a double cradle frame architecture and a low centre of gravity for superior handling. There is also a flexible sub-frame model for better scalability. The motor is connected directly to the wheel for improved power output. The MCU offers advanced features like Hill Hold, built-in traction control and ABS modes. The Pro gets dual-channel ABS while the other variants get a single-channel unit.

On the other hand, the Ola S1 Pro has been a hot seller in our market for the longest time. It comes with a 4 kWh battery pack which powers an 11 kW motor. Despite being an electric scooter, the S1 Pro has a decent top speed of 120 km/h. Using the IDC procedure, the owners will get a range of around 195 km on a single charge. This might seem a lot lower in comparison to the Roadster Pro but scooters are generally not meant for long high runs. For daily usage, this is more than enough. Charging from 0 to 100% takes 6.5 hours. It has a storage capacity of a rather handy 34 litres. It uses a tubular and sheet metal frame with twin telescopic front suspension and dual-shock absorber at the rear. There are drum brakes at the front and rear. The S1 Pro gets alloy wheels while the other trims get steel wheels. It weighs 116 kg and has a wheelbase of 1,359 mm.

Our View

Choosing between these two might seem tricky to some. However, I believe there are clear cases of the application. People looking for a futuristic electric motorcycle should opt for the Ola Roadster. I must mention here that the deliveries of the Roadster X and Roadster will commence in January 2025. Interestingly, the Roadster Pro will only be available for customers in the festive season of 2025 (September or October). Still, Ola is taking bookings. Hence, right now, there is just a single option for the customers.
