The 6/7-seat SUV has finally been launched by Hyundai and it comes with loads of modern equipment and safety amenities

The new Hyundai Alcazar has been launched in India. Alcazar, for the uninitiated, is the 6/7-seat iteration based on the mighty popular Creta. However, the Korean giant has done a lot this time around to differentiate it aesthetically from the Creta. Apart from the large dimensions, there are multiple design changes, both outside and in the cabin, to give it individuality. Also, since ADAS is the flavour of the season, the new Alcazar gets Level 2 ADAS functionalities to boost the active safety prowess as well. Even the powertrain and transmission options bear some changes in comparison to the going model. Let us delve deep into the specifics of the new SUV.

New Hyundai Alcazar Launched – Price

Interestingly, Hyundai has launched the new Alcazar at an attractive introductory price of Rs 14.99 lakh for the petrol and Rs 15.99 lakh, ex-showroom, for the diesel trims. That is even lower than the outgoing model. The reason for this is quite simple. The outgoing model had a large 2.0-litre petrol engine, while the new Alcazar makes do with the Creta-inspired 1.5-litre turbo petrol mill. Hence, the starting price is much lower now. For comparison, the previous petrol model started at Rs 16.10 lakh, ex-showroom. Hence, buyers can take advantage of these special introductory prices before these are revised. Also, the prices for the higher trims will be announced shortly.

New Hyundai Alcazar – Specs and Mileage

As I mentioned previously, the new Hyundai Alcazar gets two powertrain options – a potent 1.5-litre 4-cylinder turbo petrol engine which generates an impressive 160 PS and 253 Nm and a 1.5-litre 4-cylinder turbo diesel engine which produces a familiar 116 PS and 250 Nm of peak power and torque. Performing the transmission duties are a 6-speed manual, a 6-speed automatic and a 7-speed DCT gearbox. The Korean auto giant has even revealed the mileage figures. These are 17.5 km/l (Petrol manual), 18 km/l (Petrol DCT), 20.4 km/l (Diesel manual) and 18.1 km/l (Diesel automatic). In essence, the potential customers will get all sorts of options to choose from in terms of engine and transmission.

We know that Hyundai is one carmaker who always pushes the envelope when it comes to offering the latest gadgets and gizmos to users. This time around, that trend has continued. Design and Dimensions

The new Hyundai Alcazar comes with the latest “Sensuous Sportiness” design language from the Korean auto giant. At the front, it gets H-shaped LED DRLs which are joined together by a thin LED light strip. I feel it certainly looks different from the Creta. This becomes particularly apparent once you look at the colossal rectangular grille area. There are LED headlamps on the extreme edges of the grille with a prominent skid plate section in the lower portion. The SUV gets sequential turn indicators and elegant dual-tone alloy wheels. In fact, the side profile is accentuated by sturdy roof rails giving it a floating roof effect and black side pillars. The sportiness continues on the sides with adventurous side skirtings. At the rear, it gets a shark fin antenna, connected LED taillamps, a solid skid plate section in the lower part of the bumper and a sporty stance. All in all, it looks modern and sufficiently new in comparison to either the outgoing model or the latest Creta.

Our View

Hyundai has made sure to introduce tons of modern-age features and safety prowess to attract a wide range of customers. Not just that, with the powerful engine options along with various transmissions, it wants to make sure that everyone is able to get what they want. The competition in this segment is relatively fierce. Still, I believe the new Alcazar certainly has what it takes to rival the competitors in this space.
