Meet India’s First New-Gen Maruti Swift with Aftermarket ADAS

RC Verma

Aftermarket automobile accessories are all the rage in India and this is a prime example of one such modern safety amenity.

This has to be the first Maruti Swift in India which possesses an aftermarket ADAS. Swift is one of the most popular and successful products in the country. It has been around since 2005 and it’s currently in its 4th generation avatar. This time around, it received a brand new engine which takes the fuel efficiency figures to a whole new level. Being a popular hatchback among the masses, it is common for owners to approach aftermarket car shops to customize their automobiles. This is yet another example of that.

The details of this video come from MRD Cars on YouTube. The visuals capture the owner of the Swift with this ADAS device from Uno Minda. This is a dashcam with some ADAS features. The Swift owner shows how easily one can install this device. You just need to stick the camera on the window using the available tape, connect the USB wire to the car’s infotainment system and install the app on the vehicle’s Android OS. Once done, it takes a couple of minutes to calibrate while driving on the road. After the calibration is complete, you are ready to use this.

The owner takes the Swift out for a spin on a busy road. The system recognizes the lanes quite accurately. Moreover, it is also able to detect the precise distance of the car driving in the front or in the adjacent lane. The camera shows 170-degree angle viewing. If the system thinks that the distance is too short to the car in the front, an audio warning is relayed. Similarly, if the system detects that the car is swerving away from its lane, an audio warning will be generated. In this manner, the driver will come to know what’s happening. It could prevent terrible situations.

Our View

Now I have seen that there are numerous instances of people heading to the aftermarket car shops. The main aim is to enhance the aesthetics of the car and make it look distinct from all the other cars out there. However, some people save money by purchasing the base variant of a car and then installing aftermarket accessories as per their requirements. This certainly looks like one case where the owner wanted to install completely new equipment in his car which even the top model of the Maruti Swift doesn’t get. I would advise our readers to not go for such accessories if the original electronic architecture of a car has to be altered. It increases the risk of short circuits and fires in the car.
