The 5-door iteration of the Mahindra Thar will be showcased on August 15.
The Mahindra Thar Roxx world premiere will live stream on August 15. I must admit the 5-door iteration of the Mahindra Thar took a long time coming. I have been reporting about the test mule for a while now. During all these months, Mahindra ensured that it is able to test the capabilities of the off-roading machine across a diverse range of terrains. This includes things like extreme Himalayan routes, challenging desert environments, twisty mountain roads and well-paved highways. The aim is to create an all-rounder. Let us take a look at the details.
Mahindra Thar Roxx World Premiere to Live Stream
We are sharing the link to the live world premiere which Mahindra says is slated for August 15 at 10:30 AM. The image shared in the post reveals the exact appearance of the upcoming Mahindra Thar Roxx. In fact, in the last few days, Mahindra has been upping its game to create buzz around the launch on social media. Hence, we have seen the official teasers which highlight the exterior styling, interior features and amenities along with a real-life leaked image of the 5-door Thar. Hence, a lot of aspects are already confirmed. These include things like:
- 10.25-inch Digital Instrument Cluster
- 10.25-inch Free-Standing Touchscreen Infotainment Display
- Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
- Large Panoramic Sunroof
- Perforated Upholstery
- Ventilated Front Seats
- Level 2 ADAS
- 360-Degree Camera
- Adaptive Cruise Control
- Differential Lock
- Harman Kardon Music System
- Soft-Touch Dashboard with Dual-Stitching
- Physical Toggle Switches to Control HVAC
- Stylish Alloy Wheels
- Redesigned Front Grille
- LED Headlamps with integrated LED DRLs
- ABS with EBD
- Electronic Stability Control
- Hill Descent Control
In terms of platforms and powertrains, the Mahindra Thar Roxx will most likely borrow these from the Scorpio N. Therefore, the wheelbase will be extended to enhance the space for the rear passengers in the second row. Moreover, the boot capacity will also expand. As a result, the practicality of the occupants will be greatly enhanced. I suspect we will get either a 2.2-litre turbo diesel engine or a 2.0-litre turbo petrol engine along with 6-speed manual and automatic transmission options. The diesel will be available in two states of tunes – 150 hp / 350 Nm and 175 hp / 380 Nm. Similarly, the turbo petrol mill which offer two trims – 160 hp / 330 Nm and 175 hp / 380 Nm. Needless to mention, it will get a sophisticated 4×4 drivetrain to lend impressive off-roading qualities. Just like the Scorpio N, it will get Frequency Selective Damping (FSD) shock absorbers with penta-link rear suspension.
Our View
Even though the 3-door Thar is a widely revered product among off-roading enthusiasts in India, it can’t run away from the fact that it is not all that practical. Getting in and out via the front passenger door is rather cumbersome. Also, an extraordinarily tiny boot space isn’t any good for long hauls. Therefore, the 5-door iteration aims to remedy all that without losing the essence of being a hardcore off-roading machine. Let us see how well the customers embrace it. All details will emerge on the Independence Day.
