Mahindra Thar Roxx vs Jeep Wrangler Pictorial Comparison

RC Verma

This post will highlight the differences between the two off-roading SUVs which belong to the opposite ends of the spectrum.

In this post, I shall cover the differentiations between the seemingly similar Mahindra Thar Roxx and Jeep Wrangler. Both these are impressive off-roading machines in their own regard. However, they belong to two entirely different market segments. The newly launched Thar Roxx starts at a relatively affordable Rs 12.99 lakh, ex-showroom. On the other hand, the price tag of the base Jeep Wrangler is a whopping Rs 67.65 lakh, ex-showroom. Hence, one can clearly see the gap in their retail stickers. However, due to some resemblance in the exterior styling, it is easy to confuse the two for the uninitiated. Let us take a look at the details of the differences between the two.

Mahindra Thar Roxx vs Jeep Wrangler – Design

The first point of this comparison is the design. Mahindra has worked hard to ensure that the 5-door Thar Roxx looks substantially different from its 3-door counterpart. Hence, the front grille now hosts horizontal elements between the vertical slats. That completely alters the fascia somehow. Also, there are round LED headlamps with integrated LED DRLs. On the sides, there are additional LED lights on the fenders and fog lamps on the dual-tone bumper below. It carries the clamshell bonnet with latches on the edges. Moving down the sides reveals the colossal 19-inch alloy wheels with side steps for enhanced practicality and comfort. The tail section has C-shaped LED taillamps and a bootlid-mounted spare tyre. All in all, the Thar Roxx is significantly different from the 3-door model.

On the other hand, the Jeep Wrangler also bears the retro jeep appearance. It gets its iconic seven-slat front grille covering the entire fascia. To highlight the premium quotient, these slats are finished in chrome. Even the round frame of the LED headlamp cluster uses chrome. Down below, the bumper carries chrome housings for the fog lamps and the fenders possess LED DLRs with turn indicators. The wheel arches are quite pronounced with large claddings and rugged alloy wheels. The main point of difference on the sides is the triangular quarter glass area in the Thar in comparison to the square section on the Wrangler. At the rear, the compact LED taillamps and the bootlid-mounted spare wheel complete the hardcore off-roading demeanour.

Our View

Both these SUVs are worlds apart in terms of pricing and specifications. However, they are often considered almost similar by many in terms of external design. While that might have been true to some extent with the 3-door Thar, Mahindra has ensured to maintain a gap with the 5-door Thar Roxx. Hence, most similarities are gone. Even looking at the dimensions, one gets to know that the sizes of these two SUVs are distinct. The Wrangler is much larger than the Thar Roxx which even translates to a longer wheelbase. I hope this post is enough to explain the differences between these two SUVs.
