Thankfully, the most hardcore off-roading configuration won’t just be limited to the top variants.
The Mahindra Thar Roxx will be available with a 4×4 configuration even on the lower trims. This was confirmed by the CEO of Mahindra, Rajesh Jejurikar in an interview with CNBC. Mahindra has been basking in the glory of its latest launch in the Indian market, the Thar Roxx. It is the 5-door version of the regular Thar which aims at remedying the latter’s shortcomings. These include things like the absence of the rear doors and an atrociously small boot compartment. However, Mahindra not only improved these aspects but even introduced a new platform and added tons of modern-day equipment including Level 2 ADAS. Hence, the Mahindra Thar Roxx has now become immensely desirable.
Mahindra Thar Roxx 4×4 Trims
During this conversation, when the interviewer asked Rajesh about the price of the 4×4 variants, he commented by saying that this configuration won’t just be limited to the highest variants. In fact, to make it accessible to a wider range of potential car buyers, the Indian auto giant will start offering it presumably from the mid-level trims. If you do a bit of digging, you will know that this is a strategy that Mahindra has been following for a long time. The 4×4 hardware starts appearing in the Scorpio N’s lineup from the Z4 variant. Not only that, the XUV700 gets AWD configuration from the AX7 version. Hence, a similar approach will be available with the Thar Roxx as well.
Mahindra Thar Roxx is available with two powertrain options – a 2.0-litre mStallion direct injection turbo petrol mill which produces 162 PS / 330 Nm with the 6-speed manual and 177 PS / 380 Nm with the 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission or a 2.2-litre turbo diesel engine which generates a healthy 152 PS / 330 Nm with the 6-speed manual or 175 PS / 370 Nm of peak power and torque with the 6-speed automatic. Apart from that, it gets a new M-Glyde platform, Frequency Dependent Damping (FDD) shock absorbers with penta-link rear suspension and an independent double-wishbone front suspension, CrawlSmart and IntelliTurn Assist for better manoeuvring capabilities and more. At the moment, the prices range from Rs 12.99 lakh to Rs 20.49 lakh, ex-showroom. We will get to know the prices of the 4×4 trims at a later stage.
