The Mahindra Thar ROXX aims to eliminate the issue of practicality with the 3-door Thar and wants to expand its appeal among the masses.
The Mahindra Thar ROXX was spotted alongside the 3-door model by a prominent YouTuber. The Indian auto giant has decided to name the 5-door model ROXX. This will set it apart from the regular 3-door trim completely. While many might think that this is just an elongated 3-door Thar, that is not true. The platform, exterior styling, seating comfort, features and interior are different. That will ensure that the Mahindra Thar ROXX will have its individual identity. Let us take a look at the details of this latest case here.
Mahindra Thar ROXX Seen Next to 3-Door Model
The details of this incident emerge from HER GARAGE on YouTube. She was on a road trip to Manali, Himachal Pradesh in a 3-door Mahindra Thar. But she came across a heavily camouflaged Mahindra Thar ROXX. Hence, she was able to park the two side by side and draw out a detailed comparison. The sheer size of the Thar ROXX is significantly larger than the 3-door model. Apart from that, there are distinct styling elements like a redesigned front grille, new projector LED headlamps with integrated C-shaped LED DRLs, squared wheel arches, new quarter glass, side steps, C-pillar-mounted door handles, LED taillamps and Thar ROXX badging all around. I feel you will recognize and differentiate the two comfortably.
Interior and Features
This video was also able to capture the interior layout of the upcoming Thar ROXX. While the dashboard layout is largely similar to the 3-door trim, it now gets a dual-tone theme. Other amenities are a large infotainment display, XUV700-like steering wheel with multimedia controls, new upholstery, front armrest, window switches on the door panels, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, rear armrest, 360-degree camera, front parking sensors, push start/stop button, auto-dimming IRVM, electric sunroof, rear AC vents, roof-mounted speaker, large boot compartment, and more. There won’t be any compromises on safety either and I believe it will carry the latest equipment including ADAS.
Specs
Mahindra Thar ROXX will use the same platform and powertrain options as the Scorpio N. However, the ROXX will even have an RWD variant to cater to those who want affordability. Consequently, there could be three engine options – a 1.5-litre turbo diesel, a 2.2-litre turbo diesel and a 2.0-litre turbo petrol. Buyers will get to choose from either a manual or an automatic transmission. The main highlight will be the sophisticated 4×4 configuration which will lend immense off-roading capabilities to ensure that the occupants are able to take it anywhere.
Our View
The need for the 5-door Thar was due to the lack of practicality of the 3-door model. With the longer wheelbase, the Thar ROXX gets additional doors. Hence, the ingress and egress characteristics become enhanced. On top of that, the larger boot space is critical to ensure that a family can go around on long weekend trips. The launch is slated for August 15. All details will emerge at the event.
