Mahindra has adopted its latest nomenclature to bifurcate its Thar Roxx lineup as we take a look at the differences between the base and second-base models.
This post discusses the differences between the Mahindra Thar Roxx MX1 vs MX3 in terms of prices, specs and features. Thar Roxx has finally been launched in India after being spied testing for a long time. Note that it is the 5-door iteration of the regular Thar. However, it is not a mere elongation of the wheelbase. Instead, Mahindra has used an entirely new platform, re-calibrated engines, sophisticated 4×4 drivetrain, tons of new features, updated aesthetics and more. There is a significant distinction between the 3-door and 5-door versions. Let us check out the strengths and weaknesses of the base and second-base models here.

The main point of differentiation between these two models is the price. Being the base variant, the MX1 starts at Rs 12.99 lakh for the petrol manual and Rs 13.99 lakh for the diesel manual. There are no options for automatic transmission of 4×4 configuration. On the other hand, the second-base trim is called MX3. There is a premium of Rs 2 lakh in this version over the base model. However, in the case of petrol, you will get the automatic transmission at Rs 14.99 lakh, while you can only get the manual version with the diesel mill for Rs 15.99 lakh, ex-showroom.

Our View
Choosing between these two can be quite tricky. The price difference of Rs 2 lakh might seem a bit too steep for some people. However, once you look at the additional features on offer, it makes sense. Still, I would argue that if you are just purchasing the Mahindra Thar Roxx for its spaciousness and capabilities and are on a strict budget, settling with the base MX1 trim is not a bad idea. However, if your budget is flexible and you want some convenience amenities, opting for the MX3 is the way to go. At the end of the day, it all depends on personal preference and capacity.
