Drag race is a method often adopted by YouTubers to compare the straight-line performances of two cars.
In this latest instance, we come across a drag race event between the Mahindra Thar 4×4 and Mahindra Thar Roxx. Now, both these might seem similar to some people. However, that can’t be further away from the truth. The Indian auto giant has worked immensely hard to ensure that the Thar Roxx is not just an extended version of the regular Thar. In fact, it gets re-tuned engines, a new platform, mechanical differences and tons of added amenities. Therefore, you could consider these to be two distinct vehicles for this drag race. Let us delve into the details here.
Mahindra Thar 4×4 vs Thar Roxx Drag Race
This post stems from Power on Wheel on YouTube. The host has the new Mahindra Thar Roxx, while his companion has the old Thar in a 4×4 guise. For the first round, the two accelerate hard on the count of three. From the beginning, the Thar Roxx took the lead. In fact, it was able to maintain it till the end and took the first win. To take into consideration the driving mannerisms and human errors, the two drivers swapped the cars for the second round. This time around, the Thar briefly got a head start. However, the Thar Roxx swiftly overtook it and remained ahead for the entire race. Hence, it is clear that the Mahindra Thar Roxx was the undisputed winner of this drag race.
Mahindra Thar 4×4 vs Thar Roxx – Specs Comparison
Both Thar SUVs used in this race possess the same 2.2-litre mHawk turbo diesel engine with automatic transmission. However, these are in different states of tune. In the regular Mahindra Thar 4×4, this mill churns out a familiar 132 PS and 300 Nm, while in the Thar Roxx, this engine produces a much higher 152 PS and 330 Nm of peak power and torque. Therefore, the latter is evidently better on paper. But it is also heavier than the 3-door Thar because it is much bigger. I feel the increased power and torque figures were the reasons for this outcome. Also, the regular Thar had a 4×4 configuration but the owner had installed off-roading tyres which must have affected the performance.

Our View
Now I must mention here that while these drag race events are fun to watch, there is little practical usage of such competitions. No one drives like this in the real world. This is something even the host of this video acknowledges. Therefore, I would like to urge our readers to never get entangled in such drag races with your personal cars. You will run the risk of jeopardizing your own safety and the well-being of the car. It is great to enjoy such cases online.
