It is not often that you see a premium luxury vehicle getting in a crash with a mass-market car
In a recent incident, a luxurious Land Rover Defender got into a crash with the Kia Carens. The results are surprising, to say the least. Kia Carens is a 7-seat SUV which has been doing decent numbers on the sales charts. In fact, it is a major contributor to the 1 million (10 lakh) sales Kia has achieved in India within just 59 months of operations here. Needless to mention, the Seltos and Sonet are the major reasons for that success. Still, the Carens has played its part convincingly. On the other hand, the Land Rover Defender is one of the most successful luxury off-roaders on the planet. You will mostly find it in the garages of celebrities. For now, let us take a look at the details of this latest case.
Land Rover Defender Hits Kia Carens
The details of this post emerge from piyush_auto on Instagram. The visuals capture the live location of the accident. There are a lot of people around this spot. The luxury SUV is seen in contact with the Kia Carens from behind. It looks like the impact was not at a very high speed. Interestingly, the damage to the rear section of the Carens looks slightly less than the front section of the Defender. Now, this could just be due to the angle of collision. Still, it looks a bit weird to see such a rugged SUV suffer more damage than the Carens.
However, this is also a great occasion to understand that simply because the price of luxury cars is significantly higher than regular mass-market cars, it doesn’t mean that they are something extraordinary in terms of basic construction. The overall safety prowess of every car is around the same level. This is particularly true since the industry safety standards have to be met by every car on sale in any market in the world. Therefore, one can expect even a relatively regular mass-market car to possess comparable strength with a premium car.
Our View
I would like to mention that we must treat this as an isolated incident. We shouldn’t jump eagerly to any conclusion based on this video alone. We can never be too sure about the details of incidents reported online these days. There are many cases where the reality has been exaggerated just to gain some views on social media. Also, there are also two sides to a coin. We can never know the entire picture in the short reels. Hence, we should consume such content online with a pinch of salt.
