The Indian roads can be extremely unpredictable not just in terms of what happens there, but also with regard to the kind of unique vehicles you can spot.

The first GMC Hummer EV was spotted in Chennai, India recently. Hummer is an iconic name in the world of luxury off-roading SUVs. However, the ICE model was discontinued around 2010. At the time, only the top celebrities in the world used to own it. However, in this modern era, the American carmaker has introduced the Hummer in an electric avatar. Interestingly, it has somehow made its way to our shores. Let us take a look at the details of this latest instance.

GMC Hummer EV Seen in India

This post comes from expensive_cars_chennai on Instagram. The visuals capture a clear appearance of the GMC Hummer EV plying on the roads of Chennai. This is obviously an import since GMC doesn’t sell cars in India at the moment. Also, there is no number plate on this electric SUV. Still, it manages to demonstrate an imposing road presence just from sheer demeanour. At the front, the most striking element has to be the illuminated fascia with ‘Hummer’ lettering. The lower section contains a rugged bumper and a sturdy skid plate along with fog lamps which offer a bold appearance to the SUV. The colossal hood scoop is hard to miss.

On the sides, the gigantic dimensions surface. The wheel arches are squared and there are solid side steps to enhance the ingress and egress characteristics for the passengers. Apart from that, the mammoth alloy wheels elevate its road presence. At the rear, the viewers get to witness the large spare wheel mounted on the boot lid and elegant LED taillamps on the extreme edges which double up as turn indicators. Even the rear bumper is sturdy and improves the off-roading traits like departure angle. All in all, the GMC Hummer EV has a road presence unlike anything else.

Our View

Many cities in India, particularly in the south, have been receiving imported vehicles from various parts of the world in the last few years. One way of doing that is by using something called an ATA Carnet certificate. It is, essentially, a passport for a car which allows the owners to take their vehicle to any part of the world for a fixed duration of time without having to pay exorbitant taxes. Hence, Indians living in the Middle East, Europe and even North America often ship their cars to India for a set duration of time. That is how we are able to witness these rare automobiles here. This has to be another case in point.
