Social media users often love drag race events regardless of how lopsided they might look at first.
This drag race competition between the GMC Hummer V8 and Suzuki Jimny is quite interesting. While you might brush the conclusion off as obvious, you might be in for a surprise. Both these vehicles belong to two completely different market segments. On the one hand, we have the Hummer. It is a premium luxury SUV which a lot of celebrities used to own in the 2000s. It was discontinued in 2010. Now, it is available in an electric avatar. However, the one used in this race is the old ICE version. On the other hand, the Jimny is one of the most iconic lightweight off-roading SUVs on the planet. It has a rich legacy of over 5 decades. Let us see which one comes out on top in this event.
GMC Hummer V8 vs Suzuki Jimny Classic Drag Race
This post stems from carwow on YouTube. The YouTuber has the Jimny for this race, while his companion is driving the Hummer. This is quite an interesting race since the weights of these cars are so different. In the first round, Jimny takes the lead from the start. However, midway through, the Hummer overtakes it to clinch the title. For the second round, the competition was much closer. Still, the Hummer emerged victorious. Thereafter, a rolling acceleration test was conducted which Jimny won. Finally, they tested the braking power of the two cars from around 60 mph. Shockingly, the Hummer took more than twice the distance than the Jimny to come to a standstill. This got the drivers concerned. Hence, the Jimny won this round.
Specs Comparison
This is a completely unique comparison. The Suzuki Jimny comes with a 1.5-litre 4-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine which generates a modest 101 hp and 130 Nm of peak power and torque. This engine mates with a 5-speed manual transmission which powers the rear wheels. It weighs just 1,135 kg. On the other hand, the Hummer boasts a large 6.2-litre V8 naturally aspirated petrol engine which outputs a healthy 398 hp and 563 Nm of peak power and torque. Performing the transmission duties is a 6-speed automatic gearbox which powers all four wheels. Hence, the Hummer might seem like the favourite in this case but it also weighs a whopping 2,850 kg.

Our View
I have been reporting about drag race events for a long time now. I feel it is a great way to compare the straight-line performances of two cars. However, it must be done keeping the safety measures in place. Some people might get inspired to conduct such races on their own on public roads. That is something you must avoid at all costs. It requires experience and a dedicated location. Make sure to prioritize your own safety before jumping in for such events.
