The 5-door iteration of the famed Mahindra Thar is slated to debut on the upcoming Independence Day.

The Mahindra Thar ROXX took a long time coming and we finally have the official image of the front fascia. I have been reporting about the 5-door Thar performing extensive road tests for a long time now. In fact, the Indian SUV maker has been putting it through rigorous environments across the nation. Consequently, we saw it plying on the higher reaches of the Himalayas, the desert areas, as well as highways and expressways. This is an unequivocal indication that it is designed to excel in every scenario. For now, let us glance at the details of the soon-to-be-launched Mahindra Thar ROXX.

Front-end of Mahindra Thar ROXX

This image stems from the official mahindrathar handle on Instagram. It captures the entire fascia of the upcoming off-roader in all its glory. The first thing I noticed was the tweaked grille and round LED DRLs encapsulating the LED headlamp cluster. This, in itself, is enough to differentiate the 5-door avatar from the 3-door version. In addition to that, I like the sturdy bumper section with a dual-tone (silver + black) colour theme. The fog lamps on the extreme edges of the bumper will ensure visibility in foggy or night conditions. The upright bonnet, and colossal wheel arches with what look like LED turn indicators ooze an imposing road presence. I can see the 360-degree camera on the ORVMs too.

The Mahindra Thar ROXX will utilize the same platform as the Scorpio N. This will enable it to expand its length and wheelbase. That, in turn, will lead to a generous legroom for the second-row passengers and a much larger boot compartment in comparison to what we have in the existing 3-door variant. Apart from being larger, it will most likely share the powertrains with the Scorpio N as well. Therefore, we will probably get a 2.0-litre mStallion turbo petrol, a 2.2-litre mHawk turbo diesel or perhaps even the 1.5-litre turbo diesel (RWD) engine. Performing the transmission duties will either be a manual or an automatic gearbox. However, the most attractive aspect will be the 4×4 drivetrain which lends immense adventurous capabilities.

Apart from that, we know that Thar is an iconic product in the niche market segment. Off-roading enthusiasts swear by its name. But with the 5-door version, the Indian auto giant wanted to expand to a wider range of customers. Hence, it enhanced the practicality of the SUV and added modern amenities to cater to families. That is how the 5-door was incepted. Let us keep an eye out for more details in times to come.
