The new model from DeLorean Motor went on sale digitally on May 31 after several teasers, but the automaker has released the first images and information before anyone can wait through the official website for anyone subscribing to news and updates. DeLorean Alpha5, developed by Italdesign, is a low-hanging four-seater grand turner, like its predecessor, with large seagull doors and a fully electric power unit.
Avoid retro design links, keep seagull doors
The return of the DeLorean branded board has fewer references to the stunning DMC-12 design than originally expected. The aerodynamic body (0.23 cd) is much more curved than the original box shapes, and the window line has been replaced by a modern greenhouse. However, the Alpha5 respects tradition with seagull-shaped doors that take up most of the profile, multi-diameter multi-support wheels, a straight line that runs all around the body, and a ventilated rear windshield.

At the front, the thin LED headlights are integrated with a grille with the DeLorean logo instead of the usual DMC sign of an old car. Both bumpers have a V-shaped illuminated element with prominent splits on the front and a large diffuser on the back.
The tail has full-width taillights with three horizontal lines, which act as a blank view of the model in the DMC-12 taillights. As for the LED lights, there are illuminated patches on the front and back of the seagull’s doors, which are more visible when you open them.
The DeLorean Alpha5 has a very large footprint, measuring 4,995 mm (196.7 inches) in length, 2,044 mm in width (80.5 inches) and a height of only 1,370 mm (53.9 inches), with a wheelbase of 2,300 mm (90.6 inches).
Grand Tourer with four-seater cabin
The large size of the seagull’s doors allows easy access to the cabin with four individual seats with multiple supports and a high central tunnel. The control panel is characterized by simple lines, where the cluster of digital instruments is the focal point behind the steering wheel with a modern-style flat bottom.
The pop-up center console has a second and smaller touch screen for information entertainment, and behind it there are physical controls for the air conditioner next to the wireless charging tray. We can also see two cup holders and more storage space for front passengers.
EV Powertrain with a range of 300 miles
DeLorean did not give us a detailed presentation of the platform – it could be an EVX modular architecture developed by Italdesign and Williams Advanced Engineering – but published some predictable specifications for the Basic Performance Model. A large battery of 100 kW / h is suitable for more than 300 miles (483 km). We don’t know the output of the electric motors, but the Alpha5 accelerates from 0-97 km / h (0-60 mph) in 2.99 seconds and from 0-142 km / h (0-88 mph) in 4.35 seconds. . The top speed is 250 km / h (155 miles).
“Alpha 5 is for people who like to drive,” said Joos de Vries, CEO of Delorean Motor Company. Neil Harris, the brand’s vice president, said: “We have been given the opportunity to re-imagine a brand that has been important to many people around the world for four decades. DeLorean touched so many lives and became the basis of many memories … Now we are all witnessing a new chapter of this amazing story. “
We will learn more about DeLorean Alpha5 in digital launch tomorrow and at the official premiere scheduled for August 18 at the Pebble Beach Concours d ‘Elegance. Reborn DeLorean Motor Company Liverpool-born engineer Stephen Wynn is headquartered in Humbledt, Texas. We expect Alpha5 to be released in limited quantities, but at the time of writing there is no word on price or availability.
