BYD has named its upcoming electric MPV, the eMAX7, which will be the successor to the existing e6 in India
The BYD eMAX7, the e6 replacement, will be the next electric MPV from the Chinese carmaker. BYD has been growing leaps and bounds globally in the new energy space. In fact, it has already sold over 2.3 million (23 lakh) new energy passenger vehicles worldwide YTD (year-till-date). Hence, it is planning on expanding its footprint in India. At present, BYD has 27 showrooms across 23 cities in our country. Apart from that, it currently sells three products – Atto 3, Seal and e6. Let us delve deep into the specifics of this latest case.
BYD eMAX7 To Rival Toyota Innova Hycross
As per the information from our internal source, the Chinese auto giant is preparing to launch the new electric MPV at a price point which will be in the vicinity of the Toyota Innova Hycross. For reference, the Hycross retails between Rs 19.77 lakh and Rs 30.98 lakh, ex-showroom. I would be inclined to believe that the similarity in the price will be towards the higher end of the spectrum. In fact, even the currently-sold e6 has a retail price of Rs 29.15 lakh, ex-showroom. However, to offer an electric MPV with premium amenities at this price range is quite impressive. But then again, we have see BYD do this in the past with the Seal and Atto 3 too.
Speaking on this occasion, Mr. Rajeev Chauhan, Head of the Electric Passenger Vehicles (PEV) Business at BYD India, said, “BYD personifies sustainable luxury, and it is our constant endeavour to evolve and offer best-in-class technology and features to our customers. The BYD eMAX 7 is a testament to our efforts, which are designed after careful study of the market and feedback from the existing customers. It is a forward-thinking vehicle ideal for consumers who prioritise both sustainable luxury and practicality. The BYD eMAX 7 is a perfect fit for families seeking eco-friendly solutions without compromising on style and performance.”
Our View
BYD has been silently increasing its touchpoints and enhancing its portfolio in our market. In many parts of the world, it is already taking the competition to the legacy carmakers by offering insane value-for-money vehicles. In fact, it even briefly overtook the mighty Tesla in terms of global sales in the last quarter of last year. That is how impressive BYD has been. With its upcoming premium electric MPV in India, it will be interesting to see how well the customers embrace it. I shall keep updating our readers as more details emerge.
