While it’s not uncommon for service centre to mistakenly damage a customer’s car, the latest episode involving a Tata Harrier has left the owner in a miserable state
In a shocking turn of events, a Tata Harrier owner expresses frustration after the service centre staff allegedly crashes his SUV. I have reported about the carelessness of service centre of various carmakers on multiple occasions. You must have seen some of them borderline abusing the cars there for servicing. However, in some cases, things can go a bit too far. This latest case is a prime example of that. Tata Harrier is the flagship 5-seat SUV from the Indian auto giant and enjoys a decent popularity. It’s well-appreciated for the 5-star safety, modern aesthetics and decent equipment level. But the latest case seems to have left the owner of this SUV quite helpless.
Tata Service Centre Crashes Harrier at over 150 km/h?
This video emerges from Prateek Singh on YouTube. In this case, a strange case has emerged from Gujarat. As per the information in the video, the owner of the Tata Harrier said he gave his car for regular service and minor repairs to an authorized Tata service centre. However, the staff didn’t call him to tell him the status of the service for over a week. When the owner went to the service centre to inquire about the status of the SUV, he was astounded to find out the reality. The dealership staff had taken the Harrier some 20 km away from the service centre for some reason. What’s worse is that they were overspeeding in the SUV which led to a horrible accident.
The owner of the SUV was not even intimated about this entire chain of events. In fact, the video shows the condition of the vehicle. The entire front section and the side pillars have been destroyed. The SUV is almost in a total loss condition. When the owner asked about this entire saga, the dealership staff allegedly barked racial slurs at him. In all honesty, we can’t confirm or deny this. But the owner alleges that the staff meant that he was not capable of buying this car due to his caste. In any case, the staff was allegedly misbehaving with the owner about this entire incident instead of apologizing for their mistake. The owner says that they were just telling him to claim the insurance and get the money. Needless to say, the owner is utterly shocked and disappointed.
Our View
Now I must admit this is quite a disturbing incident. While it is hard to verify the claims made by the Tata Harrier owner about the service centre staff, it is clear that they took his car without his permission to a far-off location for some reason, drove at high speed and crashed the car. That is quite unbelievable. I hope that the higher officials take cognizance of this matter and announce strict punishment. This is completely out of line and strict action is needed to send a positive message from the Tata Motors officials so that others don’t do something like this. Also, I hope that the owner gets some relief from the higher management to navigate his way through such challenging times. For now, I await an official response from Tata Motors on this case. You’re requested to stay tuned as I’ll update the story with the carmaker’s version as soon as I can get the company’s statement.
