More than a year ago, Matthew Calleros, a 46-year-old Los Angeles police officer living in Whiter, California, was arrested on charges ranging from car theft to misrepresentation of DMV records. After initially pleading not guilty and struggling with the charges all the time, he changed his statement to guilt and now faces a light sentence, given all the laws he has violated.

After nearly a quarter of a century in the police force, Calleros asked the dealer for a history report in October 2019 before driving a 2015 Chevrolet Silverado. This was not his last bad choice.

When the pickup truck was first reported stolen, prosecutors said Calleros identified himself as another LAPD officer and then told the department’s Vehicle Warranty Department that the truck had been found. He then added a 2014 Silverado license plate to the back of the truck before using a confidential database to verify the two Silveradoes.

Accordingly APMore than a year after the actual theft, Calleros was arrested by a truck while working at his station and in the parking lot. Even then, he was released on bail. In any case, this is not the same type of treatment that an ordinary citizen receives in the same situation.

In any case, Calleros fought the charges and initially pleaded not guilty. He was now found guilty of stealing a car, registration or forgery of license plates and false identification, all serious crimes, as well as three misdemeanors. He was sentenced to only 180 days in prison and two years probation. The court records also show that he is obliged to repay the undisclosed amount.

It should also be noted that Calleros was released after the verdict and is expected to report to the prison on August 26. If it enters on a certain date, it will be released until February 22, 2023. Just in context, the maximum sentence for these crimes could be four years and four months in state prison.
