This is India’s First Maruti Alto with a Push Button Start

Aftermarket car modification houses have become so talented that they are able to install any feature into just about any vehicle.

This latest case of a Maruti Alto with a push button start is quite intriguing. I have been reporting about incredible aftermarket automobile modifications for a long time now. Due to easy access to spare parts from all across the world, along with exposure to innovative ideas online, people are able to perform all sorts of customizations to their automobiles. In a bid to do that, there can be some challenges. For now, let us delve deep into the specifics of this case.

Maruti Alto with Push Button Start

The details of this modification come from roadiescaraccessories on Instagram. It captures the entire installation process briefly. The man shows the two key fobs and the push start/stop button at the beginning. In the second frame of the video, the entire area around the steering wheel is dismantled. This system is being connected to the existing electronics of the car. Finally, the button is fixed at the same location which initially housed the regular ignition switch. Thereafter, the man shows that the vehicle was able to switch on with the press of a button. Also, when the key goes 3 m away from the car, it automatically locks itself. Similarly, once the key is within the 3-m-radius, the car unlocks on its own. Hence, it is working fine.

Why It’s A Bad Idea

Now this can’t possibly be a great idea for a variety of reasons. Firstly, the mechanics are tampering with the original electronics of the vehicle. We know that most car fires occur due to short circuits. The main reason for that is the aftermarket accessory installation. We must remember that the quality of any aftermarket component can never be as good as the original equipment because carmakers maintain a certain standard which is hard to replicate elsewhere. In fact, that is the exact reason why the same thing would cost way less outside the company shop. However, people are price-conscious and focus only on saving money.

In this process, they often compromise with the quality of spare parts. Secondly, any reputed car customization house would rarely offer anything which needs tinkering with the electronics of the car. As I mentioned previously, this can easily lead to short circuits and fires. Not to mention, once you play around with the wires, you run the risk of voiding the warranty. That is why the top players in this space generally wouldn’t offer anything that can result in the car owners losing their warranty. Therefore, I wouldn’t recommend such alterations to anyone.
