Tata Motors has launched the CURVV coupe SUV and it will be available in petrol, diesel and electric avatars.
This post captures the differences between the recently unveiled Tata CURVV and Tata CURVV EV. Both these might seem similar to a whole lot of potential car buyers. However, there are some subtle differences on the outside and a massive difference in terms of the powertrains. While the CURVV is an ICE car available in petrol and diesel versions, the CURVV EV, as the name suggests, is an electric car. As a result, the customer base of both these SUVs will be quite varied. The launch took place on August 7. For now, let us list the differences in these seemingly similar cars.
Tata CURVV vs Tata CURVV EV – Specs and Price
Even though the detailed specifics of the powertrain will be available at the launch, we know that the ICE version will bear similar engines as the Nexon. However, with the CURVV, the 1.2-litre 3-cylinder turbo petrol engine will be tuned to produce 125 hp of peak power. This is slightly higher than Nexon. Apart from that, it will most likely borrow the diesel mill from the Nexon too. Also, both these engines could pair with manual and automatic transmissions. It will ensure that all sorts of buyers will get what they are looking for. The CURVV will be based on the updated Nexon platform. It ranges from Rs 9.99 lakh to Rs 17.69 lakh, ex-showroom.
On the other hand, the CURVV EV will utilize the Gen 2 Acti.ev architecture. The details about the specifications of the electric motor and battery are not available at this point in time. If I want to venture a guess, the CURVV could share the battery and motor specifications with the Nexon EV. Even though the CURVV is slightly larger than the Nexon, there won’t be too much of a difference for the propulsion system. Therefore, we might be looking at almost similar battery size and power figures as the Nexon. The prices are between Rs 17.49 lakh and Rs 21.99 lakh, ex-showroom.

Tata CURVV vs Tata CURVV EV – Design
The design of the Tata CURVV is quite modern and striking. Most elements of the two SUVs are similar. At the front, there are sleek LED DRLs integrated on the flanks of an LED light bar, representing the current trend. The lower section of the bumper is divided into two halves via a horizontal belt. On the extreme edges, there are vertically stacked LED headlamps rendering a modern appearance. The main difference in the front fascia of the two SUVs is the distinct pattern on the bumper, tweaks to the LED DRLs and the sealed front section in the case of EV.
Apart from that, the side profile is quite appealing. In fact, the sloping roofline, resulting in the coupe appearance, is the main attraction of the CURVV. There are sporty wheel arches, chrome belt around the window frames, elegant alloy wheels and flush-fitting door handles. The CURVV EV gets dedicated aerodynamically active alloy wheels in comparison to the ICE CURVV. At the rear, both SUVs bear similar patterns including a boot lid-mounted spoiler, a sporty bumper, connected LED taillamps via an LED light bar and more. To set the two apart, the badging on the bootlid is model-specific. All in all, there are barely any concrete differences in the overall design of the two SUVs. Still, the hawk-eyed among you will spot these easily.
Features
Since the two SUVs are essentially the same, most interior features and cabin layouts will be shared. However, there are not many official announcements regarding the exact amenities on offer. Still, some of the top highlights we will most likely get in both these coupe SUVs are:
- 12.3-inch Touchscreen Infotainment Display
- Digital Instrument Cluster
- Electronic Parking Brake
- Panoramic Sunroof
- Automatic AC
- Textured Dashboard
- Premium Audio System
- Two-Spoke Steering Wheel with Illumination
Our View
We will be able to get a closer look at the specifications of these two SUVs at the launch. Still, the main attractions of the two products lie in their very nature. People looking for a mid-size coupe SUV in ICE guise can opt for the CURVV. It will be positioned between the existing Nexon and Harrier. Needless to say, this will see the most sales due to its powertrains. However, the trend of EVs is also heating up. In fact, Tata Motors is the market leader when it comes to electric car sales. With the CURVV EV, the Indian carmaker will further expand its portfolio and, in turn, sales.
Now choosing between these two is a matter of application and preference. If you wish to buy an EV, the Curvv.ev is a great option. It comes with the latest tech, convenience, connectivity, safety and design amenities. The Indian carmaker takes care of all the modern elements. On the other hand, even the Curvv in ICE guise bears the latest appearance and has all the features of the Curvv.ev. The only question remains what are you willing to spend and how do you intend to use your car.
