MG Motors has expanded its electric portfolio in India with the launch of the new Windsor EV
This comparison between the new MG Windsor EV and Tata Curvv EV will be quite existing. I shall take into account the specs, prices, features and design of the two EVs. Electric mobility is growing rapidly in India. Tata Motors is the leading player in this regard. It has leveraged the success of its ICE product range and converted it into EVs. Hence, people are buying these EVs like hotcakes. However, the Curvv EV is the first dedicated electric car from Tata. Interestingly, it is also available in petrol and diesel guises. On the other hand, the MG Windsor EV is also a bespoke product. Let us compare the two thoroughly.
MG Windsor EV vs Tata Curvv EV – Price
MG Motors India has come up with a rather creative way to price the Windsor EV. It is charging Rs 9.99 lakh, ex-showroom for the vehicle and is offering the battery on a rental basis. The price for the latter depends on your usage. It is fixed at Rs 3.5 per km. Hence, you will only pay according to your usage. Adding the running costs, MG claims that the total cost will be around Rs 5 per km. In addition to that, MG is offering an assured buyback program after 3 years of usage at 60% value. Not only that, under its eHUB program, the EV owners will get 1 year of free public charging. Finally, to make the deal even more interesting, it is offering the MG e-Shield Package which contains 3 years of unlimited warranty, 3 years of RSA and 3 years of Labour-free maintenance services. On the other hand, the Tata Curvv EV ranges from Rs 17.49 lakh to Rs 21.99 lakh, ex-showroom.

Design Comparison
The one area where these two compelling electric cars differ significantly is the design. The MG Windsor EV certainly bears an unorthodox design language. It is somewhere between an electric crossover and an SUV. In fact, MG is calling it a CUV. In any case, it gets a prominent LED strip at the front which covers the width of the fascia. As a matter of fact, this strip neatly merges into LED DRLs on either side. Apart from that, the lower section of the front profile contains the headlamp cluster and a curvy bumper section with a stylized element. It certainly looks like an EV from the front.
Moving to the sides reveals 18-inch alloy wheels which aid the aerodynamic efficiency of the EV. Apart from that, I like the premium touch with flush-fitting door handles and black side pillars. There is a chrome strip running underneath the window frames. At the rear, the connected LED taillamp completes the overall modern appearance of the EV. Furthermore, the rear bumper gains sportiness due to the rugged cladding. All in all, the MG Windsor EV certainly boasts a unique road presence which people will be drawn to.
On the other hand, the Tata Curvv EV is the only coupe electric SUV in the country at this price point. In fact, Tata Motors wanted to democratize this body type. At the front, it gets an LED light bar with LED DRLs on either side. Also, the bumper section is divided into two halves with LED headlamps on the extreme edges and a sporty section underneath. On the sides, it gets aero alloy wheels with black side pillars. Moreover, the wheel arches are pronounced and the flush-fitting door handles lend a premium vibe. However, the sloping roofline is the highlight of the side profile. At the rear, it gets a connected LED taillamp unit with a sporty shark fin antenna and a sturdy bumper section. I must admit that the road presence of the electric coupe SUV is quite enticing.
Our View
Choosing between these two impressive EVs is not easy. On one hand, you have the brand value associated with Tata Motors. The Curvv EV was a product which was massively anticipated. Once it was launched, everyone was impressed by the way it looks, the amenities and the powertrains. However, you need to shell out a substantial amount if you wish to get your hands on one. On the other hand, MG Motors has ensured that people even with low budget can opt for the Windsor EV. Later on, depending on their usage, the additional battery rental can help them keep the running costs in check. Therefore, if you are low on budget and want to experience a new product, the Windsor EV is a good choice. Still, if you don’t want the hassle of calculating your running costs everyday and have a flexible budget, the Tata Curvv EV is the one for you.
