The upcoming 5-door iteration of the mighty popular Mahindra Thar is slated for launch on August 15.
The front and rear seats of the soon-to-be-launched Mahindra Thar Roxx have been spied online. I have been reporting about the 5-door Thar test mule for a long time now. The Indian auto giant has made sure that it puts the large off-roading avatar of the regular Thar through hardcore and rigorous tests. As a result, Mahindra took the Thar Roxx to the extreme temperature and terrain conditions in the upper reaches of the Himalayas (Leh and Ladakh) in addition to extensive testing across many highways in the country. The aim is to produce a vehicle which is capable of taking on any role.
Mahindra Thar Roxx vs Thar 3-door Interior
This post originates from plusdrive_155 on Instagram. We know that the 5-door Thar will utilize the same platform as the Scorpio N. Hence, the space inside the cabin will increase significantly. However, unlike the Scorpio N, Mahindra Thar Roxx won’t offer a third row of seating. Therefore, the second row will be extremely spacious. In fact, we might even get the option of two captain seats in the second row in some variants to maximize comfort levels. The dashboard layout is largely the same but the Thar Roxx will get a bigger touchscreen infotainment unit in comparison to the 3-door version.
In addition to that, the seat upholstery will also be slightly different from the regular Thar to enhance the comfort of the off-roader. Note that while it will contain rugged adventure characteristics, the focus will also be to make the SUV more suitable for family usage. The prime aim of this variant is to cater to families which is where the larger boot space also comes into the picture. All in all, the Mahindra Thar Roxx is going to fix the common issues with the 3-door trim.
Our View
I am excited to witness the larger Thar in the flesh. It has been in the making for a long time. I know that many people are excited about the SUV. Thar represents the pinnacle of off-roading prowess which is why it has been the most successful off-roader in India for the longest time. To Mahindra’s credit, it has transformed the Thar in its latest iteration to make it much more user-friendly in terms of amenities, comfort, tech and practicality. Going forward, Mahindra is further enhancing its capabilities to suit a wider range of potential users. Hence, the trend of lifestyle off-roading SUVs will receive a prominent push.
